Lou Anne Bynum, Executive Vice President for Long Beach City College (LBCC), is Vice President of the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners, appointed in May 2014 to fill a vacated seat on the Board and reappointed in September 2015 to her first full, six-year term on the five-member governing body responsible for setting policy for the Port and managing the Harbor Department.
Ms. Bynum joined LBCC in 1997. She has more than 25 years of experience in the public and private sectors linking education and training to business and industry needs - including Port-related partnerships - with focus on developing a well-trained workforce and providing businesses and industry opportunities to grow and create jobs.
At LBCC, Ms. Bynum oversees college advancement, economic development programs and workforce training, community and corporate education and training, federal and state grants and contracts, communications and public information, and special resource development projects on behalf of the College. Under her leadership, LBCC has brought in and administered more than $125 million in grants and contracts.
Ms. Bynum earned a master's degree in Applied Linguistics/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the University of California, Los Angeles; a bachelor's degree in History from California State University, Long Beach, and has received many prestigious awards. She has provided volunteer leadership for many local, regional and national organizations and currently serves as an executive committee member of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Board and an appointee to the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
